PSORIATIC ARTHRITIS TREATMENT
Psoriatic Arthritis is a chronic disease typified by inflammation of the skin (psoriasis) and joints (inflammatory arthritis). Psoriasis is a condition that manifests itself in red, scaly rash, which then escalates to include inflammation of the eyes, heart, lungs, kidneys and most commonly, the joints. It is also possible for inflammation to occur before the skin condition emerges.
What are the treatments available for psoriatic arthritis?
While there is as yet still no cure for psoriatic arthritis, it can be eased by a variety of methods. Several relief treatments includenon-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs), immunosuppressant, and TNF-alpha inhibitors, as well as natural products such as Emu Oil.
NSAIDs can aid pain relief and reduce inflammation. However, they can cause stomachaches, ulcers or bleeding, especially when taken in large doses. They may also cause liver and kidney damage, or possible heart problems.
DMARDs can slow the development of psoriatic arthritis and reduce risk of permanent damage to joints and other tissue. Unfortunately, they are expensive and may cause the patient to experience dizziness, sore throats, coughs, stomach pains, headaches, nose irritations, upper respiratory infections like colds, or have a reaction in the locale of the injection.
Immunosuppressant acts to control the immune system, which tends to run rampant in a case of psoriatic arthritis, providing temporary respite. However, it can increase susceptibility to infection or common illnesses.
Tumour Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) is an inflammatory material produced by the body. TNF-alpha inhibitors can help reduce pain. However, they may trigger nausea, diarrhoea and hair loss.
Emu oil is a natural remedy that has scientifically proven anti-inflammatory qualities, and can provide relief for psoriatic arthritic pain and muscle and joint inflammation. It has no side effects and is suitable for long term use. It is also safe for oral consumption in both liquid and capsule form.
